Walk the Gorge

September 25, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

| Free

The Gorge will be free of traffic all day from dawn to 6.00pm. Before 2.00pm the participants and organisers of the half marathon will be in charge of the highway – so make sure that you follow their instructions.

Once they have cleared the highway, at about 2.00pm, Portway will be yours to enjoy.

There are several tracks to discover between Portway and the Downs. There are five different routes – and the better known zig-zag path. The top and bottom of each route will be marked with flourescent banners. We have prepared a special booklet for youWalking-Festival1 to download – see below.
The paths up the gorge are all quite steep. You will need strong shoes – and be prepared for rough surfaces and steps, some of which are uneven.
As a reward, you will have a delightful woodland walk, with fantastic views. The starting points along Portway are shown on the site map, and will be marked with fluorescent flags, as will the starting points on the Downs.
