Bristol’s Pop up water bar
September 17, 2017 @ 2:00 pm
Thirsty? Bring a bottle!
Reducing plastic waste and refilling with tap water has proven popular this summer across Bristol as Bristol Water has introduced their new pop up Water bar. Having teamed up with City to Sea on the Refill Bristol Campaign the water bar has kept festivals goers at Pride, Redfest and the International Balloon Fiesta. The Water bars next stop is at Peaceful Portway on Sunday 25 September.
City to Sea started the Refill Bristol campaign during the European Green Capital year to reduce the amount of plastic waste going to the sea. They have teamed up with Bristol Water this year and taken their pop up water bar to a number of events across Bristol this year.
At the Balloon Fiesta around 10,000 people guzzled down around 6,000 litres of tap water throughout the festival from the Pop-up Water Bar. Proving that the demand for refillable tap water is out there.
87% of people tend to drink tap water at home but when out and about that number dramatically drops. Having a reusable water bottle not only reduces plastic waste but it is so much cheaper than buying bottled water.
“The aim for us at these events has been to get people to reduce the amount of plastic waste they produce. Most people have heard the phase ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ but for some reason the recycle element has made its way to the front. The thing we should be concentrating on is reducing the amount of waste we produce, and this is the message we are trying to get across” said Michelle, Creative Director for City to Sea.
She added “Speaking to people at the Balloon Fiesta it was obvious there is a demand for refill station like Bristol Water’s water bar”.
“We at Bristol Water strongly believe everyone In Bristol and the surrounding areas should be working together to reduce the amount of plastic we use, and have shown our support to this fantastic City to Sea project.
There are also loads of other benefits that come along with refilling whilst at events such as the Balloon Fiesta. You stay hydrated and that was certainly needed over this weekend, but you also save loads of money.
