Afrikan Caribbean carnival procession -colourful costumes, music and dance

A carnival procession of mass dancing, colourful costumes, and an eclectic blend of music will parade down the Portway as part of Portway Park Sunday, marking 50 years of the Race Relations Act and the UN Decade of People of African Descent.

The float will leave start costumes at 3pm with Roots music courtesy of Roots Inspiration and Qualitex before handing over to live performances of original music by this years Carnival Academy stars: Phresh Boiis, Ashante Athena, Paperboi3 Music group, Den Bee Shots and mentor Kilaze.

DJ Mvrchesi will supply an eclectic blend of music and the event will also feature a mass dance routine to General Levy’s landmark tune ‘Incredible’.

 

Barbara Dettering, Owen Henry and Roy Hackett – three of the founding members of the 1968 St Pauls Afrikan Caribbean Carnival and also instrumental in the Bristol Bus Boycott will be represented by commissioned carnival costumes and taken down the Portway along with a float playing a variety of MOBO (Music of Black Origin).
